This page is divided into four groups of questions:
To successfully complete these courses you are going to need:
- An internet connection and a reliable device (computer, laptop, tablet or smartphone). We recommend you have more than one browser installed on your device, e.g., Google Chrome, Firefox, Explorer, or Safari (Mac)
- A voice-recording device to do your interpreting exercises (required). Nowadays, most smartphones have this capability. Your recordings will be used in class only, so you won’t have to worry about sending us the audio files.
- Notebooks, pens, and highlighters.
- Headphones or earbuds (optional).
- A printer (optional). You will be able to download all your material in PDF format. You can print or save on your computer.
Yes, you will. To receive the final certificate of completion for the 40-hour program, MITS will need to verify the completion of the entire course on its system. The certificate will be emailed to you within 48 hours after your request.
Certificates for continuing education courses are immediately available for download after passing the final quiz.
Yes, you can. However, a desktop or laptop would be more convenient and practical to handle the media files.
You can start with any course at anytime. As you soon as you enroll, you’ll have access to the course you purchased and start working on it at your own pace.
Interpreters purchasing continuing ed packages (16 or 32 hours) will be emailed a coupon code within 48 hours. In that way, they can choose the course they’d like to take.
Of course, you can write or call your instructor at any time. You can also make an appointment to chat over the phone, Skype, FaceTime, etc. No limits!
We pride ourselves on providing outstanding support and customer service. We will provide technical support related to the usability, format, navigation, and interface of the website content. However, MITS cannot offer technical support for telecommunications, internet connection, hardware, personal equipment malfunction, or for any other technical issue outside of MITS’ control.
To be able to move to the next lesson you will be required to score a minimum of 70% on the quiz. If you don’t pass on your first attempt, you can retake the quiz after reviewing your attempt and wrong answers.
The quizzes are based only on the content covered in the class, so there are no surprises.
Currently, we don’t have a payment plan to pay for the $640 special package of 40 hours and bonus courses. You can, however, buy the ten courses from this program separately as you go. The price of each individual course is $80.
Why not a payment plan? A typical payment plan usually retains your final certificate until you make the last payment (3 to 6 months down the line). By making your payment upfront at MITS, you won’t have any restriction as to when to take your courses or receive your certificate of completion.
We accept all major credit cards and PayPal.
Unfortunately, we don’t have any available funds or grants to assist with the payment of any these courses. MITS is a private school that offers a certificate-of-completion program, and therefore, it doesn’t qualify for financial aid from the federal government, like in the case of colleges and universities.
Some employers may have a tuition assistance program in place. If you need this course to improve the performance of your job and benefit your employer, they may be able to assist you or reimburse you.
Because MITS courses are not RID approved, they fall into the PINRA category. You will be able to earn CEUs if an approved sponsor approves the courses before you start. (PINRA).
About the 40-hour programs
The 40-hour program is composed of ten core courses. These courses are about four hours long each and divided into short-sized lessons that you can take at your own time and speed. Throughout these ten courses, we’ll cover linguistics, healthcare terminology, medical terminology and put into practice your interpreting skills with realistic simulated medical encounters in the three main modes of interpretation: Sight Translation, Simultaneous, and Consecutive.
To enroll in the MITS 40-hour program, you must:
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Have completed high school (or GED) in the U.S. or in another country.
- Have advanced linguistic proficiency in both English and your working language. *
*Linguistic proficiency is the ability to speak and understand a language without any difficulty or delay.
Immediately! You’ll have access to all the modules right after you enroll. This is a self-paced program; you can take it at your own time and speed.
You’ll have access to the course you purchase for one year.
Each course takes about four hours to be completed; that’s the time you will be accredited for. It is not required that you complete the four hours all at once. You can certainly take your time and work at your own pace. However, we strongly advise you to dedicate at least one uninterrupted hour each sitting.
Because of the intensity of the program. We do recommend taking more than eight (8) hours of training per day. The minimum number of days to complete the 40-hour training course is six (6) days. The registration day does not count as a full day. No certificate of completion will be issued sooner than six days after registration.
MITS reserves the right to request further documentation, such as worksheets, glossaries, certificates and/or recordings if we believe that the information submitted, and our records are not sufficient proof of successful completion.
Absolutely! You’ll have full access for 12 months from the date you purchased the course to practice and review the whole course if you want to.
No, you can access your course at any time you want to study. The course is conveniently divided into small lessons, so you will be able to easily stop and come back to where you left off. We recommend you dedicate at least one hour each sitting.
It’s very important to clarify that certification and a certificate of completion are two different things. A certificate of completion shows that you received training, but only that. To get certified, you’ll need to take any of the two national certification exams.
We usually use coupons for students who purchase continuing education course and pay for their courses in advance. Currently, we don’t have any additional discounts or coupons for the 40-hour programs.
MITS has created its own and original content. You will be able to download all the study material from our website free of charge.
There’s a little misunderstanding as to what a CEU is. One CEU equals 10 hours of continuing education training. If you are certified by the National Board, you need only 3 CEUs (30 hours). Each of our classes is 4 hrs. (0.4 CEUs) and not 4 CEUs because that would equal 40 hours. If you are certified by CCHI, you need 16 hours every 2 years.
Yes, all MITS CEU courses are accredited and approved by the Certification Commission of Healthcare Interpreters (CCHI), Continuing Education Accreditation Program (CEAP), The National Board of Certification for Medical interpreters (CCHI), International Medical Interpreters Association (IMIA) and American Translators Association (ATA).
Most smartphone today have voice recording capabilities. On an iPhone for example, you can find an application called voice memos. If you can’t easily find it, it may be nested into the Extras app. Other devices come with this feature too. If you don’t have one, you can download one from the many free options in your app store.
You can also purchase a classic digital recorder online. A decent recorder that will do the job may range from 25 to 50 dollars.
Please make sure to get very familiar with your recording device to avoid delays, complication, and frustration.
